Come join us for the 2nd Annual Maui Pride Film Festival. We've got a great film and special guests lined up that you won't want to miss. For our 2015 Festival we invite you to join us for a Hawaiian LGBT cultural immersion experience.
Our evening begins with a brief concert by Maui-born, award-winning and world-renowned Hawaiian singer/songwriter Keali'i Reichel. Learn more about Keali'i, his music, and his ongoing work in the preservation, continuation and education of ancestral Hawaiian traditions and values at kealiireichel.com and kealaokamaile.com .
Following Keali'i's music we will be showing the award-winning documentary "Kumu Hina", a powerful film about the struggle to maintain Pacific Islander culture and values within the Westernized society of modern day Hawaiʻi. It is told through the lens of an extraordinary Native Hawaiian who is both a proud and confident māhū, or transgender woman, and an honored and respected kumu, or teacher, cultural practitioner, and community leader. As a bonus, Kumu Hina herself will be with us for the evening to talk about the film, elaborate on some of the topics and challenges it depicts, and for a general meet & greet. Learn more about the film at kumuhina.com .
Tickets include delicious deli dinner, concert, film, and Q&A followed by meet & greet with the film's star, Hina Wong-Kalu (Kumu Hina). This is an all-ages, alcohol-free event. Doors open at 5:45pm and space is limited.
